ECBC: Borsuk/Rohr 2nd & 3rd in 4/5. Weichmann 2nd in 2/3/4
MAY 21 2012
The final week of racing in Erie, a releif maybe... a bummer maybe... or just some more fun?
In the 4/5 race the pace was fast again. Multiple attempts by all teams and riders to get off the front were made. TBS launched a few flyers that stuck for a bit, but not long enough to really put fear into the pack. The longest break of the day was Alex's lasting about a lap with some good distance to the gap. He was reeled back in and became part of the group to get ready for the leadout. Tom and Brian were sitting in the group ready for the last lap, Tim, Andrew, and Alex were gearing up to push the pace on the last lap.
Alex, Tom, and Brian found themselves in a great position coming out of the last turn. Alex pushed for the line, but was caught just before earning a 2nd place. Brian was just behind. Andrew P and Tom were close behind in 5th and 6th.
The cat 2/3/4 race is always a different animal for us lowly cat 4s. We mix in and help push the pace to let everyone know we aren't just there to draft to the line. On the first lap Tom and a cat 4 for Competitive Gear (Craig) slowly drifted off the front. The group was content to let them go and did.
A lap or so later CG sent another rider across the gap. TBS tried to reel him in at first, but the attempt was falling short and the team decided the situation up the road was still acceptable. After that it was a game of leap frog for the rest of the race. There was an impromptu 1/4 lap neutral pace due to "Tractor-gate 2012" (a tractor was in the road in front of the pack).
The lead group of 3 survived to the end, Tom sprinted for 2nd place.
